Good afternoon from the doctor’s waiting room. I have concussion, a suspected cheekbone fracture and a very charming black eye. Who knew colliding with a 5-year-old could cause so much damage*? I’m under drs orders to rest (ha, as if) so today’s letter is just a short one.
In today’s letter: The perfect cookie cutter, Candlestick Books website is finally finished (!)
*he’s fine!
Copper hand
I bought this old copper cookie cutter at auction and promptly dropped it upon delivery to my house, so surprised I was by its weight. It feels proper, industrial. What did the person before me use it for? I feel like the shape of a hand is never called for when making biscuits. But maybe I can change that?
A glorious new website!
After what felt like an age I’m very happy to tell you the Candlestick Books website is finally finished. You can view it here.
Doing everything myself was… a lot. My kitchen regularly looked like this while I photographed the products against that one nice wall —
But what I wasn’t expecting while making the new website was a renewed love for photography. I was a photographer for 15 years until my son and covid put the kibosh on that. Book reselling swiftly became my life. But now? I’m dipping my toe back in again. Tomorrow I’m photographing an MP. Let’s just hope my black eye doesn’t frighten him.
Apologies
What to do when you’ve sold a large, heavy book and it doesn’t fit inside any box or envelope? You wrap it in bubblewrap, wedge it between cardboard, then cloak it in miles of brown paper until it resembles something like this (see above). Apologies if you received this parcel. I tried my best!
Apologies but those spelling mistakes have officially killed me. Goodbye
